The idea for "Threshold" was born from an experience I had while on retreat in the Colorado mountains. I participated in a Vision Fast intensive with the Animus Institute, which provided a nurturing space for me to delve into ideas and intentions that I had been incubating for some time.

During this transformative experience, I encountered two skulls that sparked a profound mythic dialogue about our connection to death and the challenges we face when confronting our own darkness and mortality. (A new blog post on this topic will be coming soon.)

To condense a lengthy story, I felt compelled to create an invitation and portal that would beckon both myself and others into a "momenti mori" moment. This painting serves as a reminder of the importance of contemplating our mortality and the beauty that can be discovered when we courageously confront the unknown shadow aspects of our psyche. It encourages us not to fear, but rather to embrace death and darkness with curiosity and admiration.

In a similar vein to finding meaning through symbolism in Tarot cards or carrying a Memento Mori pendant as a reminder of life's value, this painting serves as a "Threshold," inviting viewers to glimpse the beauty that resides within the shadows.
